Duncan commenced his career in the Supreme Court of Queensland as an Associate working on first instance and appellant matters. The importance of framing issues to best assist proper and efficient decision making through the justice system’s various legal processes was a key perspective Duncan gained from this work.
While studying for the Bar Duncan clerked at Murray Gleeson Chambers. There he further developed the attributes and skills that informed the application of this perspective by assisting barristers, instructing solicitors, and their clients with the wide body of legal and practical concerns common to criminal and administrative matters.
Upon being called to the Bar and gaining experience in this work as a Barrister, Duncan was appointed to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agencies’ Regulatory Prosecutions division. Here Duncan worked nationally applying his advocacy and advice to advance complex criminal and administrative matters. This involved working collaboratively with police, solicitors, unions, investigators, hospitals, nursing homes as well as various other stakeholders in investigation, negotiation, mediation, and litigation processes.
At the private referral Bar Duncan has a national practice. He assists investigative and litigation processes step-by-step facilitating the best possible outcomes by thoughtfully working to resolve issues. Having a background in both private and public sectors has given Duncan unique insight to this work and its practicalities.
Ever mindful of stakeholder needs, Duncan is proactive and energetic about advancing matters. He frames issues pragmatically and presents them on common ground. This allows stakeholders to give weight to considerations outside the immediate difficulties, stresses and mistakes that usually frame substantive issues.
Duncan is briefed with and without a leader on first hearing and appellant matters. He accepts materials via eBrief Ready.
